How it Happened
The Owls' goalkeeper
Dylan Florian saved the first shot of the game and after
Justin Miller caused a turnover on defense for KSC, Florian picked up an assist on a pass all the way downfield to Tedone who put the Owls up a goal 1:32 into the contest. VC responded with a pair of goals over the next 2:14, including a man-up goal, to give the Brewers the lead. Over the next seven minutes, KSC tacked on three-straight goals as
Sebastian Foresi and
Tim Souza both netted their first goals of the season, followed by
Dylan Seymour doubling the Brewers up, 4-2, with a few minutes remaining in the opening quarter. With 2:19 remaining in the first, Tate Tinker scored his first goal of the season for Vassar to pull within a goal and VC looked to add another goal after winning the ensuing faceoff, but
Aidan Donohue caused a turnover shortly after leading to
Jack Ansart scoring his first goal of the season for KSC. Ansart's goal came in his first action of the season after missing the first three games due to an injury as he put KSC up 5-3 heading into the second.
Nicholas McNulty and
Rex Maccarini opened the scoring in the second quarter on the Owls' first two shots on goal, while Florian saved the first two shots from VC as KSC jumped to a 7-3 lead with 8:54 remaining in the half. On the ensuing faceoff, Matteo Roman collected the ground ball and scored just 19 seconds after Maccarini's goal. The Brewers gained even more momentum on the following faceoff as Roman added another goal 16 seconds later to pull within a pair. KSC halted the Brewers' momentum a minute later with a goal to increase the lead back to three as Tedone assisted
Adam Scala for the goal as he bame the eighth different goal scorer for the Owls on the day so far. Baker Morton and McNulty each scored their second goal for their game for their respective teams and the Brewers' goalkeeper, Drew Quinn, saved a shot on Tedone at the last second as KSC took a 9-6 lead into the halftime.
Quinn saved a shot to open the second half, just as he did to end the first half and Morton added a pair of goals in the opening 3:34 of the third quarter to bring the Brewers within a goal. Over the next eight and a half minutes, KSC recorded nine shots on goal, to none from the Brewers. KSC scored on the first three of the nine shots as Ansart,
Cole Ricardi, and McNulty tallied goals for the Owls over a 2:40 span. Quinn saved the next three shots on goal, but Maccarini and Ansart scored a goal each, 40 seconds apart to put KSC up 14-8 with 3:39 remaining in the third. Quinn saved the final of the nine shots over the span shortly after, and the Brewers tacked on three goals the rest of the quarter. Shane O'Hara scored two of the three goals for VC, including one at the buzzer to cut the Owls' lead to 14-11 heading into the final 15 minutes of play.
Gavin Arcuri opened the scoring in the fourth with a man-up goal 1:34 into the quarter to cut the Owls' lead to a pair, but after KSC forced a Vassar turnover on their next possession for not getting the ball over midfield within 20 seconds, Tedone assisted on Maccarini's 10th goal of the season. Quinn saved the next three shots for the Owls, but he was unable to save the fourth in a row as Maccarini scored yet another goal for KSC to extend their lead to 16-12 with 7:42 remaining. Tinker added a pair of assists a few minutes later as he assisted on Arcuri and Anderson Eads' goals as VC pulled within two with 3:40 remaining on the clock. The rest of the way, each goalkeeper saved a shot in goal and following a 60 second penalty on VC with as many seconds remaining on the clock, KSC killed the rest of the clock and held on for their first victory of the season.
