SALEM, Mass. –
Jack Ansart led the way for the Keene State College men's lacrosse team as he tallied seven goals, the most by an Owl since his teammate
Rex Maccarini did so almost two years ago, in the Owls' 20-10 win over Salem State University on Friday night.
Records
- Keene State: 6-6 (3-1 LEC)
- Salem State: 7-5 (1-4)
How it Happened
The Owls jumped to a lead 50 seconds into the contest as
Rex Maccarini assisted
Giacomo Tedone for the opening goal, but the Vikings answered back to take a 2-1 lead on a pair of goals. Salem State jumped to a 3-1 lead with 7:47 remaining in the opening quarter, but KSC responded with three goals over the next 3:42 of play to retake the lead heading into the second quarter. After Maccarini picked up another assist, this time on
Jake Dubiel's goal,
Cole Ricardi won the ensuing faceoff and then scored a goal himself to tie the game up at three apiece. The Owls' final goal of the quarter came from
Sebastian Foresi as the Vikings' goalkeeper, Damian Biersteker, made two more saves the rest of the quarter for his third and fourth save of the opening quarter to limit the Owls' lead to one.
Salem State retook the lead heading into the second quarter, 2:22 into it from a pair of goals but the rest of the quarter was all KSC as the Owls scored four goals in the final 5:55 of the quarter to take a 7-5 lead into the half. Ansart scored his first goal of the game to tie the game back up at five, while 33 seconds later,
Jack Ricci assisted
Ben Tukey to retake the lead for the Owls. Maccarini and
Dylan Seymour each added an assist as the final two goals of the quarter came from Ansart as the Owls took their 7-5 lead into the halftime break.
KSC pulled ahead at the start of the third quarter by scoring six goals in a row, making it 10-straight goals in a row for the Owls. Seymour scored the first two of the six to open the quarter as Ricardi and
Jaheim Lancaster each tallied an assist, while
Tim Souza assisted Ansart on the third of the quarter. Tedone scored two more of the six, while Ansart recorded the remaining goal as KSC took a 14-6 lead with 6:07 remaining in the third.
Cameron Smith on the Vikings snuck a shot past the Owls' goalkeeper,
Cameron Smith, to stop the scoring streak, and Grady Smith scored the next goal for Salem State shortly after, to try to build some momentum. The Owls did not allow the Vikings to gain too much momentum though, as Ansart and Seymour each scored a goal in the final few minutes as KSC jumped to a 16-7 lead into the final 15 minutes of action.
The Owls once again opened the quarter off strong in the fourth as they scored four more goals in a row to reach 20 in the contest to open the fourth.
Nicholas Dexter recorded his first career point on a goal to open the scoring in the fourth, while
Connor Woods assisted Ansart for the second of the four goals and his seventh of the contest. The final two of the day came from a goal apiece from Maccarini and Tedone as KSC increased their lead to 20-7 with 4:21 remaining. The rest of the way, Salem State tacked on three more goals and the Owls comfortably held on at the end of the day for a 20-10 win over the Vikings.
