How it Happened
The Owls were on the attack early as they recorded five shots over the first 15 minutes of action. Of the five shots, only two reached the frame as the Lancers' goalkeeper Tobias Schneider saved both attempts. Later in the half, after
Eldin Husanovic saved the first shot he saved from WSU, the Owls responded right after on the other end of the half with a foul in the box, leading to
Cristian Correa scoring the first goal of the year for KSC with 13:13 remaining in the opening half. The Owls held off the Lancers the rest of the half by blocking their only two shot attempts as they took the 1-0 lead into the half.
Both teams were more efficient with their opportunities in the second half compared to the first as the first four shots that the Owls took were all on frame, but was saved by Schneider, including two from junior transfer
Dorian Wilczynski and one from each
Luke Belisle and
Jack DiGiovanni. Despite the Owls being on the attack for a majority of the second half, the Lancers were never out of it as KSC received five yellow cards over a 27-minute span that kept giving the Lancers free kicks and opportunities, but never amounted to anything. Both teams traded possessions throughout the second half, but it was not until under six minutes remaining until a team found the back of the net in the second half. After Schneider saved the fourth shot of the half, the ball rolled right to
Parker Root, and he fired it into the back of the net to give KSC a 2-0 goal on his first goal of his collegiate career. The rest of the remaining 5:37 of the contest each team recorded another shot on target, but the opposing goalie saved it to preserve the 2-0 victory for KSC.
