KEENE, N.H. – The Keene State College women's soccer team returned home on Saturday for their fourth consecutive game at the Owl Athletic Complex, but the University of New England netted a pair of first half goals that the Owls were unable to bounce back from as UNE defeated the Owls 2-0.
Records
- Keene State: 4-6-4 (2-2-2 LEC)
- UNE: 9-4-1 (3-3-1 CNE)
How it Happened
Michaela DiCiccio opened the contest by saving the first shot that she faced in goal for the Owls in the 11th minute, but after Lexy Brodeur slipped through the Owls' defense a few minutes later, she put UNE on the board with her fourth goal of the season 16:04 into the contest. UNE tacked on a second goal 2:30 later as Jill Hodgson sent a pass into the Owls' box past the defense where Rosalie DeSantis took a tough and sent a shot into the bac of the net to increase the lead. UNE nearly tacked on another two goals over the next 16 minutes, but Hodgson's shot hit the crossbar and after the Nor'easters thought they had their third goal of the game, they saw the offsides flag up and the goal was taken away. KSC tried to do what they could on the attack but just like UNE, KSC also had a goal taken away as
Kayla DiPasquale's corner kick went off
Kylie Rapoza and into the goal before the ref claimed that the initial corner kick went out of bounds and the play was blown dead. The Owls' other opportunity in the opening half was on a far free kick sent in by
Eleanor Leland, but Sam Kowalick made the diving save to keep KSC off the board and preserve the 2-0 lead heading into the half.
Over the opening 20 minutes of the second half KSC recorded three shots to try to draw even, but a shot from three of the Owls' nine seniors,
Elizabeth Tschudin,
Elise Saab, and
Claire Halligan, all missed the target. On the other side of the field over the following 10 minutes DiCiccio held strong making a pair of saves in net to limit UNE's lead to a pair with 15 minutes remaining. The rest of the way the Owls were unable to get enough clean looks to convert as only one of their three final shots were on frame as Kowalick saved
Juliana Palhof's shot and the Owls fell to the Nor'easters, 2-0.
