Owls Drop Regular Season Road Finale to Wolves

DANBURY, Conn. – The Keene State College women's soccer team traveled down to take on Western Connecticut State University on Saturday afternoon in a crucial Little East Conference matchup as the regular season is starting to wrap up, but with the Owls' attack unable to get going, the Wolves picked up their first home win of the season by defeating the Owls 4-0.

  • WestConn: 6-3-7 (4-1-3 LEC)

How it Happened

The Owls looked to strike first early on in the contest as Eleanor Leland sent a shot on goal following a KSC corner kick, but Gracen Regan made her first save of the contest for the Wolves before a minute later WestConn took the lead as Abby Corcoran found the back of the net. Michaela DiCicco bounced back and saved the next shot that she faced from the Wolves three minutes later, but five minutes following DiCicco's save, Madelyn Dwyer sent a shot into the top left corner of the goal to put the Wolves ahead a pair. Kaylee Cormier did what she could to try to bring the Owls back within a goal, but she was denied on her shot on frame by Regan before Sienna Smith scored on her kick into play from a WestConn corner to put the Wolves ahead 3-0 in the 29th minute. The rest of the opening half DiCicco saved the next two shots she faced, and the Owls prevented the Wolves from tallying another goal to limit the lead to three heading into the half.

Over the opening 20 minutes of the second half KSC recorded five shots, but with only two on frame, Regan made the saves again to preserve the Wolves' lead. WestConn scored another goal in the 70th minute of the contest as Jordan Breier netted her first goal of the season as the Owls' defense was unable to clear the ball, while Regan made three more saves the rest of the contest to shut the Owls' attack down as KSC fell 4-0.
