How it Happened
KSC was on the attack early with a pair of shots on goal that Janiya Matier saved for the Beacons before the Beacons netted their first goal of the game following a save by
Michaela DiCicco in goal for the Owls and a defensive save from
Jada Lucas, Devan Booth put the Beacons ahead as the opening have was two third through. KSC had another scoring chance later in the opening half, but
Kaylee Cormier's shot rang off the crossbar and stayed out as UMB took their 1-0 lead into the half.
KSC recorded four shots on goal over the opening 12 minutes of the second half, but the Owls were unable to get close looks, firing shots from long range, allowing for Matier to make the easy saves for the Beacons. With 20:26 remaining in the contest it looked as if the Beacons were going to take a 2-0 lead after the Owls were called for a penalty in the box, but DiCicco held strong, saving the penalty kick attempt from Alexis Williamson to limit the Beacons' lead for the moment. The rest of the way the Owls attack continued to apply pressure on the UMB defense, but Matier made three more saves and
Mikayla Ryan nearly scored for the Owls with under two minutes remaining as her corner kick almost curved in, just for it to hit the front of the crossbar and stay out of the goal. KSC's later push was denied away from the Beacons' defense and the Owls' season came to a close with the 1-0 defeat.
