How it Happened
Norwich jumped out to an early lead in the contest, scoring a goal two minutes and two seconds into action and following it up with another goal 1:29 later for the 2-0 lead. It didn't take long for the Owls to respond back as
Jack Ricci won the next five faceoffs for the Owls as the KSC piled on the goals, scoring five goals over 2:20 as NU was unable to possess the ball at all over the time span. Five different Owls tallied a goal over the run as
Dylan Seymour,
Jaheim Lancaster,
Sebastian Foresi,
Jack Ricci, and
Ben Tukey all scored a goal, while Adam Scale and
Jake Dubiel each recorded an assist to put KSC ahead 5-2. The Cadets' starting goalkeeper, Mason Dils, bounced back by saving the next five shots that he faced, but after a pair of shots hit the post, the Owls found the back of the net eventually for their sixth consecutive goal as
Caleb White assisted
Cole Ricardi with 1:51 remaining in the opening quarter. Dils added another save the rest of the first while the Cadets tacked on one more goal to cut the Owls' lead to 6-3 heading into the second quarter.
Both teams traded goals over the opening 3:29 of the second quarter as
Ty Cougler assisted
Jack Ansart for his first goal of the game to bring the score to 7-4 for KSC. The Owls attack continued through the second quarter, just as it did in the first as despite another two shots hitting the post, as KSC found the back of the net for three goals in a row over the next 9:20 with Seymour, Scala, and Ricardi (from Tukey) netting goals to put the Owls ahead 10-4. The rest of the 2:11 of the opening half Drew Fleury scored his second goal of the game for the Cadets with just two seconds remaining to bring the score to 10-5 heading into the half.
Fleury opened the scoring for Norwich to start the second half with a goal 1:10 into the third quarter before both goalies went to make five saves combined before either team tallied a goal until late in the third. KSC killed off two-minute-long penalties across the third period before finding the back of the net as
Nick Sullivan caused a turnover on Dils on a Norwich clear attempt and scooped up the ground ball and scored for the Owls' lone goal of the third quarter. 46 seconds later Norwich answered back as the Cadets scored a man-up goal to pull within four heading into the fourth quarter.
Just as the Owls opened the contest strong, they closed strong as they recorded six consecutive goals over 7:39 in the fourth to increase the lead to 10. The first three shots on goal from the Owls scored in the quarter as
Nicholas McNulty opened the scoring, followed by Foresi assisting Scala and Ansart assisting Tukey for the man-up goal 41 seconds later. After Dils bounced back and saved the next two shots that he faced for the Cadets, the Owls continued the attack as Ansart scored two more goals, with Cougler assisting one, and McNulty closing out the six consecutive goals out with another goal with 4:01 remaining in the contest. The rest of the contest the Cadets tacked on two more goals, but it was too late to try to start the comeback as the Owls cruised to the 17-9 victory.
