KEENE, N.H. – There will be more action at Spaulding Gymnasium this weekend as the Keene State College basketball teams host games in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) tournament on Saturday and Sunday.
The No. 3 seed Owl women (18-9) open the weekend by taking on No. 6 seed Lehman College (16-11) from the Bronx in New York City at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday (March 7). It will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs. Both teams fell in their conference tournament semifinals, with KSC losing at Rhode Island College 73-54 while the Lightning lost to eventual City College of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) champion Hunter College 80-70 on the road. The Owls have gone 9-2 at Spaulding Gymnasium in 2025-2026 and recorded their first home playoff win since their 2017 Little East Conference championship team when they downed Eastern Connecticut State University 60-54 in the quarterfinals. The winner of Saturday's quarterfinal will advance to take on No. 2 seed Brooklyn College (23-4, 14-0 CUNYAC) at the home of top-seed McDaniel College in Westminster, Md. next Saturday (March 14). The Green Terror will take on either No. 4 seed Rutgers University-Camden or No. 5 seed Cedar Crest College. The two semifinal winners next Saturday will meet in the championship next Sunday, March 15 at McDaniel.
On the men's side, after KSC's run of four straight Little East Conference championship games was snapped, the Owls earned the No. 2 seed in the ECAC tournament and will host a weekend four-team pod with a format similar to those of the NCAA tournament, which they hosted in both 2023 and 2024. KSC will open the tournament against No. 7 seed University of Maine-Presque Isle (15-13) on Saturday (March 8) at 3:00 p.m., with the other matchup at 5:00 p.m. to see No. 3 seed McDaniel College battle No. 6 seed Rutgers-Camden. The two winners will play on Sunday in Keene at 1:00 p.m., with the winner of that to advance to the ECAC championship game on Saturday, March 14 at a time and site to be determined. The other pod will see No. 4 seed Franciscan University (Ohio) meet No. 5 seed New Jersey City University at 5:30 p.m. at host University of Pittsburgh-Greensburg. The host Bobcats were slated to take on No. 8 seed State University of New York at Maritime College, but the Privateers were forced to withdraw, advancing Pitt-Greensburg to the second round. Both KSC and UMPI advanced to their league championship games, with the Owls falling 84-68 at Western Connecticut State University to see their streak of conference titles snapped at a record four years despite junior
Jordan Cooper going off for 97 points in the three games. Presque Isle, also the Owls, won on the road at No. 2 seed Husson University in overtime in the North Atlantic Conference semifinals and hung around at top-seed University of Maine-Farmington into the second half (trailing by six with 17:21 left) before falling 84-58.
Tickets are available online and in person, with all online purchases including a per-ticket convenience fee. Ticket costs will be $10 for adults and $5 for children from ages seven through 17 and seniors. Children under seven are free, as are current Keene State College students and staff.
