How it Happened

Matt Hutchings put UMB on the board first with his first goal of the day 3:02 into the contest as he capitalized on a man-up opportunity for the Beacons. It did not take long for KSC to tie the game back up after Dylan Seymour rang a shot off the crossbar, Jake Dubiel collected the ground ball and evaded defenders to find the back of the net to tie the game back up. Andrew Wiegand made two saves in net for KSC on UMB's next two shot attempts, but after Wiegand and the Owls killed off his penalty that he was called for, as KSC was switching Wiegand back into play, KSC turned the ball over leading to an easy goal for the Beacons to retake the lead with 4:54 remaining in the first. Wiegand bounced back and saved the next shot on goal that the Beacons took and limited UMB's lead to one heading into the second quarter.

UMB dominated in the second quarter, outscoring KSC 9-0, while the Owls were only able to manage to get six shots off, with one shot on goal which James Boldy saved for the Beacons and another hitting the post. With UMB outscoring KSC 9-0 in the second, the Beacons took a 11-1 lead heading into the second half.

UMass-Boston tacked on three more goals in the opening four minutes of the third quarter before KSC was able to stop the 13-goal scoring streak as Cole Ricardi assisted Jack Ansart for the second goal of the day for KSC. UMB responded right back with a goal 1:25 later before Wiegand made a pair of saves on the next two shots that he faced from the Beacons on a pair of man-up opportunities for the Beacons. Despite being a man-down, KSC was the team to find the back of the net as Seymour assisted Ansart for his second goal of the game for the Owls with 6:20 remaining in the third. The rest of the quarter each goalie made a pair of saves and the Beacons found the back of the net twice more, including on a man-up goal again, giving UMB a 17-3 lead heading into the fourth.

Both teams traded goals to open the scoring in the fourth with Jake Dubiel joining Ansart with scoring his second of the day for KSC. Over the next nine minutes KSC scored five goals in a row as Tukey tallied a pair of points from a goal and an assist, Seymour tallied three points from a goal and pair of assists, while Ansart scored two goals and Nicholas McNulty scored a man-down goal for the Owls. In the final minute of the contest each team tacked on one more goal as Ansart assisted Seymour for the man-up goal to round out the scoring on the day.
