David Hastings

David Hastings is entering his first season as acting head coach of the Keene State men's basketball team for the 2023-2024 season, after being named to the position in July of 2023.

Hastings is in his eighth season with the Owls, as he served as associate head coach the past five years, after being promoted from an assistant for his first two years with the program. Over Hastings' seven years with the Keene State, the Owls have had some of their best seasons, compiling a 126-55 overall record (.696 winning %). Hastings helped lead the Owls to four NCAA Tournament appearances, reaching the Elite 8 in 2016-2017, Sweet 16 in 2022-2023, Second Round in 2021-2022, and appearing in the first round in 2018-2019.

In Little East Conference play over Hastings' seven years with the program, the Owls have a 75-24 LEC record (.758 winning %), won the LEC Regular Season Championship twice (2018-2019 and 2022-2023), and won the LEC Tournament Championship three times (2018-2019, 2021-2022, and 2022-2023).

A longtime high school coach in Western Massachusetts, Hastings brings 15 years of experience at Pioneer Valley Regional High School.

After four seasons as an assistant coach at Pioneer Valley, Hastings took over the program for the 2001-2002 season. Since then, he led the Panthers to the Western Mass. semifinals, and 11 appearances in the Western Mass. tournament.  Hastings also served as the Director of The Edge, an AAU program in Western Massachusetts.

Hastings recently retired as Chief of Police for the city of Gill, Mass.
