Rick Scott

Keene State College didn't have to look far to find a successor to longtime head men's soccer coach Ron Butcher. He'd been standing next to him on the sidelines the previous 22 years.

2019 brought the Owls to their first NCAA tournament under head coach Scott. The Owls finished with a 15-7-0 record, including 6-2 in conference play which picked gave the Owls the No. 2 seed in the LEC tournament for the second consecutive season. KSC came up with two separate four game win streaks throughout the season, placing them in a home game for the semifinals. KSC took a 1-0 win over RIC to advance to the LEC Championship game for the third time under Scott. KSC defeated Eastern Connecticut for Scott's first LEC Championship as the leader of the club. KSC moved on to host the NCAA Division III men's soccer tournament, but were stumped in the first round against Ithaca College. Scott was able to lead his leading goal scorer Emmanuel Smith to 12 goals on the season, which was top five in scoring in the LEC on the season.

In 2018, Scott's team experienced a true resurgence, finishing 13-6 overall and returning to the LEC championship game for the first time in five years.  The Owls finished 13-6 and locked up the No. 2 seed in the LEC tournament, winning nine straight games, the most consecutive wins since 2001, from September 15 to October 15.  Keene State was the only team to beat both regular season champion Eastern Connecticut State and tournament champion Western Connecticut State in the regular season.

In his first season at the helm of the Owls' program, Scott led the Owls to a 12-7-1 record and the No. 3 seed in the LEC tournament.  KSC rebounded from losing their first two LEC games for the first time in school history to reach the LEC title game for the first time since 2010.  In 2016, Scott's team finished 8-8-2, including a dramatic 1-1 tie against No. 12 UMass Boston on the final day of the regular season - the Owls were one of three teams to take points from the Beacons that year.  The Owls returned to the Little East Conference tournament after a two year absence in 2017, bowing out to eventual champion Western Connecticut State on penalty kicks after a 1-1 tie.

Scott has tutored Promise Kpee to become the LEC Rookie of the Year in 2014, while 11 players have earned All-LEC honors under his watch.

After playing soccer at St. Mary's High School in Claremont, N.H., Scott moved on to Keene State, where he was a four-year member of the team (1973-76), earning All-Conference and All-New England honors and serving as team captain in his final two seasons. A hard-nosed defender and the heart and soul of the team's backfield, Scott played a pivotal role in the Owls' success. His teams posted a 57-12-6 record, capturing three NESCAC Championships. His 1973 team advanced to the NAIA District 32 Northern Championship. Sharing the NESCAC title in 1975, the Owls earned a berth in the ECAC Tournament, where they defeated Brandeis (1-0) before falling to Springfield College (2-1, OT) in the second round. Scott concluded his career in 1976, leading KSC to a 2-0 win over Castleton State in the championship game of the NESCAC tournament.

After his playing career, Scott served 11 seasons as head coach at Keene High School, leading the boys' varsity team to a pair of Class L titles and a 126-35-12 record. As the coach of the Blackbirds, Scott developed many All-State, All-New England, and All-American high school players. He also started the Cheshire Youth Soccer Club in 1994.
