KEENE, N.H. 11/20/01 - Dave Stantial (Beverly, MA.) had 19
points, including his 1000th career point, and 15 rebounds to lead
the Keene State College men's basketball team to a 82-56 victory
over Endicott College in a non-conference game played Tuesday at
Spaulding Gym. Keene State (3-0) remains undefeated while Endicott
falls to 1-2.
Three other Owls scored in double-figures in the game including
Chris Timson (Beverly, MA.) 18 points, Dave Cudworth (Sanford, Me.)
18 points, and Derek Swenson (Attleboro, MA.) 17 points.
The Owls jumped out to a 16-4 lead six minutes into the game on
the way to building up a 39-25 half-time cushion. Timson gave the
KSC a 26-point lead (59-33) with a drive at the 13:05 mark of the
second half.
After struggling from the field and at the line during the first
half, Stantial scored his 1,000th career point with a baseline
three-pointer at the 10:40 mark.
"I knew going into the game that I was close, " said the Owls'
team captain, I wasn't making free throws and I was missing a lot
of shots because of the pressure."
It was only appropriate that he hit the milestone with his
trademark three-point shot. "It's the shot I take the most. I'm
glad it worked out that way," he added. Stantial joins KSC's
1,000th point club that now has 22 members.
KSC Coach Rob Colbert was pleased that his team came out on top
in the physically played contest. "We knew offensively it wouldn't
look pretty because of the nature that they play," he said. We knew
it was going to by ugly." Jamal Francis and Matt Sarver had 10
points each for the Powergulls.
Following the Thanksgiving break, KSC will travel to Springfield
College on Thurs., Nov. 29 for a 7 p.m. game.
