KEENE, N.H. 12/8/01 - Dave Stantial (Beverly, MA.) had a
game-high 27 points and 10 rebounds to lead Keene State College to
a 104-75 Little East Conference men's basketball victory over the
University of Southern ME, Saturday in Keene.
It was the fourth straight win for KSC (7-1,2-0 LEC), who remain
undefeated in the LEC. USM (4-4, 1-1 LEC) saw its three game
winning streak come to an end.
The Owls jumped out to a 17-point lead (41-24) before settling
for a 13 point (57-34) advantage at the break. Stantial had 16
first half points for KSC, including four three-pointers. KSC shot
53% from the field and hit nine of 13 three-point attempts in the
first half.
KSC extended its lead in the second half, going up 73-46 on a
hoop by Chris Urquhart (Salem, NH) with 11:59 to play. Chris Timson
(Beverly, MA.) (13 points) and Derek Swenson (Attleboro, MA.) (12
points) also scored in double figures for KSC Coach Rob Colbert,
who got all his players into the game.
Ryan Garland (Hermon, Me.) had 12 points and Ryan Soucie
(Caribou, Me.) added 11 points to lead the Huskies. Jason St.
Pierre (Bangor, Me.), who came into the game with a team-high
18-ppg average for USM, was held to eight points. It is the second
time the Owls have surpassed the 100-point mark this season. They
scored 108 points in their season opener against Notre Dame (NH).
Keene State is off until next month when they host Western CT on
Jan. 8.
