WELLESLEY, MA. - First-year goalkeeper Dave Frascogna (Orchard
Park, Fla.) made his career-high 19th save in the fourth quarter to
lead second-seeded Babson College to an 11-9 victory over
sixth-seeded Keene State College in the semifinal round of the ECAC
New England Men's Lacrosse Tournament on Friday night.
With the win, the Beavers (11-5) advanced to Sunday's
championship game against Springfield, while the Owls end their
season with an outstanding record of 12-3- a program best mark.
Babson appeared to have things under control early on, as the
Beavers built a 5-1 lead with 4:13 remaining in the opening
quarter. However, Keene State scored two straight to end the
quarter and then added another in the second to pull to within one.
Babson then received a goal from senior attack Darryl Hasen
(Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) to take a 6-4 advantage into the half.
The Beavers grabbed the momentum once again early in the third
quarter, as senior Devin Collins (Binghamton, N.Y.) and Hasen
netted back-to-back goals to push the lead back to four at 8-4.
Keene State then responded by scoring four of the game's next five
goals, including a pair by first-year Eric Momnie (South Windsor,
CT), to cut its deficit to just one at 9-8 heading into the fourth
quarter.
In the final quarter, junior James Flavin (Littleton, Colo.)
gave Babson some breathing room with his first goal at 12:50.
Flavin then assisted Hasen on his fifth goal of the game one minute
later, as the Beavers took an 11-8 lead with 11:51 left in
regulation.
Keene State got its final goal with 9:12 left, as Momnie tallied
an unassisted score on a wide open shot to pull the Owls' back to
within two. However, the contest would belong to Frascogna from
that point on, as the rookie goalie made his 19th save with 47
seconds remaining to seal the 11-9 victory.
First-year Eric Delisle (Amherst, N.H.) also played brilliantly
in net for Keene State, making 18 saves. Fellow first-year Ryan
Connary (Portland, ME) entered the game for a 40-second period in
the third quarter and added one stop for the Owls.
Babson will now hit the road to face top-seeded Springfield in
the championship game on Sunday night at 7 p.m. The Pride advanced
to the finals with a 13-10 victory over Wheaton in Friday's other
semifinal matchup.
