KSC Women's Soccer Rolls Past RIC 4-0

'KEENE, N.H. 10/25/03 - Freshman Tara Wagner (Avon, Conn.) had two goals to lead the Keene State College women's soccer to a 4-0 shutout victory over Rhode Island College in a Little East Conference game played Saturday at Owl Athletic Complex.

 

KSC improves 12-4-2 and 5-0-1 in the LEC.  The Owls, who have given up just one goal in conference play this season, is unbeaten in its last 14 conference matches (14-0-1) -- since losing 3-0 to Western Connecticut State University in the finals of the 2001 conference playoffs. LEC contests. RIC drops to 6-9-1 (2-3-1 LEC).

 

KSC, which scored all in goals in the first half, took an early 1-0 lead on a breakaway goal by Wagner at the 3:25 mark.  R.I. College came right back with a couple of great scoring opportunities.  Erika Haaland (North Dartmouth, Mass.) hit the cross bar and Lauren Tomasso (Cranston, R.I.) headed the rebound over the net.

 

Wagner's second goal of the half gave KSC a 2-0 lead. R.I. College goalie Melissa Carpentier (Woonsocket, R.I.) came out to get the ball and collided with a defender.  Wagner got the ball and put it into the open net.

 

KSC added two more goals before the end of the half.  Katie Stevens (Londonderry, N.H.) scored on a rebound to make it 3-0 and Amber-Lynn Lyman (Hinesburg, Vt.) finished off a two-on-one break with Stevens to extend the halftime lead to 4-0.  Keene State outshot RIC 18-3.

 

Michelle Mason (Fairport, N.Y.) made one save to notch her eighth shutout of the season.  Carpentier finished with nine saves for the Anchorwomen.

 

Playing in their final home regular season game, seniors Jenn Ortisi (Allenstown, N.H.), Amber Tetreault (North Kingstown, R.I.), Erin Lester (Walpole, N.H.), and Katie Parkinson (South Kingstown, R.I.) were honored prior to the start of the game.

 

Keene State plays a non-conference game at Bridgewater State (2:30 p.m.) on Wednesday.
