Bridgewater, MA - In women's soccer action this afternoon from
Swenson Field, Bridgewater State College spotted the visiting Owls
of Keene State a 2-0 first half lead but came back with two
unanswered goals as the Bears salvaged a 2-2 tie.
Senior Michelle Rhodes (Marshfield, MA) potted the game-tying
goal in the game's 59th minute as she dribbled through the Keene
State defense and buried a shot inside the top corner of the net.
For Rhodes it was her team-leading fourth goal of the season.
Keene State, which entered the game ranked 10th in New England,
jumped out to a 2-0 advantage on goals from Breanne Lucey (Keene,
NH) and Courtney Gately (Canton, MA) and appeared to be headed to
the victory. But the Bears got a big lift with just under eight
minutes remaining in the opening half as freshman Jessica Chiachio
(Stoneham, MA) scored to cut the lead to 2-1, and BSC carried the
momentum into the second half.
BSC keeper Emily Schlosser (Petersham, MA) registered 10 saves
in goal for the Bears, while senior Michelle Mason (Fairport, NY)
turned aside six shots for Keene State.
Bridgewater (7-5-3) will wrap up the regular season schedule on
Saturday at 3:00 PM as they host MASCAC rival Salem State College.
A win over Salem would assure the Bears of a home game in the
semifinal round of next week's MASCAC Tournament. Keene State
(10-5-2) is also in action on Saturday as they return home to take
on UMass-Dartmouth at 1:00 PM.
