'SANFORD, FL -- Attackman Chris Wathey (Sr., South Huntington,
NY/St. Anthony's) scored four goals and handed out two assists as
the Franklin & Marshall men's lacrosse team overcame a 7-3
first period deficit to handle Keene State 13-10.
Trailing 7-3, the Diplomats jumped back into the game outscoring
the Owls 3-0 in the second quarter before reeling off a 5-1 third
quarter to carry an 11-8 lead into the fourth quarter. In the
fourth, Keene couldn't cut the Diplomats' lead as both teams
tallied two goals for the 13-10 final score.
Overall, Wathey led the Diplomats attack with seven points,
while Colin Hanley (Jr., Davidsonville, MD/DeMatha) netted three
goals and an assist. Bas Solleveld (Sr., Glenmoore, PA/Shipley) and
Steve Welsh (Jr., Lewes, DE/Cape Henelopen) both tacked on a pair
of goals and an assist in the effort. Kevin Kohl (Fr., Manasuan,
NJ/Loomis Chaffee) and JB Robichau (Jr., Edgartown, MA/Tabor) added
goals and Mike Down (Fr., Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) and Pat
Grove (So., Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) chipped in assists to
close out the Diplomats' scoring.
For Keene, attackman Joe Branciforte scored four goals and
handed out an assist to pace the Owls' offense. Meade McKay
registered three goals and an assist, Eric Momnie tallied a goal
and an assist, while Greg Richard and Greg Gonzalez both scored
goals to complete Keene's scoring,
In goal, Mike Sartorius (Jr., Summit, NJ/Summit) made 17 saves
to lead F&M to the win, while Eric Delisle took the loss
recording 15 saves.
Franklin & Marshall (3-1, 0-0 Centennial Conference) will
continue the season on March 20 versus Denison College. The game
will be played at Loyola University at 4:00 p.m.
