Men's Lax: Owls Advance to LEC Semifinal Round

'KEENE, N.H. 4/27/04 - Greg Gonzalez (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) had four goals to lead the Keene State College men's lacrosse team to a 11-4 victory over UMass-Boston in a Little East Conference Tournament first-round game played Tuesday at Owl Athletic Complex.

 

 

Seeded third Keene State (9-5) advances to Thursday's semifinal game against second seed UMass-Dartmouth at North Dartmouth, Mass. (3:30 p.m.).  Fourth seed Plymouth State also advances to the semifinals by edging fifth seed Southern Maine 7-5 in Tuesday's other first round contests.   PSU goes on to face defending LEC Champions Eastern Conn. State University on Thursday in Willimantic, Conn. 

 

 

The Owls, who were defeated by UMass-Dartmouth 9-7 earlier this season, are looking for revenge.

 

 

"I think we are going to have a good game against UMass-Dartmouth," said KSC Coach Mark Theriault.  "We're at the time of year where we are playing good lacrosse and we are ready to compete."

 

 

Keene State made the most of its opportunities, scoring the first six goals of the game, and extended its lead to 9-1 at the half. 

 

 

In addition to Gonzalez, Eric Momnie (S. Windsor, Conn.) and Meade McKay (Stratham, N.H.) tallied a pair of goals each for the Owls.  D.J. Clattenburg (Concord, N.H.), Joe Branciforte (Cromwell, Conn.), and Andrew Denley (Wakefield, N.H.) added single goals in the game.  Travis Pedley (Bow, N.H.) chipped in with three assists.

 

 

Senior Mike Forns (Falmouth, Mass.) led the Beacons (6-8) with two goals and an assist.  Freshman Andrew Rowley (Duxbury, Mass.) and senior Jason Mohre (Sandwich, Mass.) also scored for UMB.

 

 

Eric Delisle (Amherst, NH) had four saves for KSC.  Dan O'Neill (Barnstable, Mass.), who had a busy day in goal, finished with 27 saves for the Beacons. 

 

 

KSC will face UMass-Dartmouth in LEC semifinal round action on Thursday (3:30 p.m.) in North Dartmouth, Mass.
