'KEENE, N.H. 5/5/04 - Joe Branciforte (Cromwell, Conn.) had five
goals to lead fourth seed Keene State to a 10-4 victory over fifth
seed Roger Williams University in a ECAC Division III New England
Tournament quarterfinal game played Wednesday night at Owl Athletic
Complex.
Keene State (11-6) advances to the semifinals where they will
play top seed Western New England College on Saturday in
Springfield, Mass. WNEC defeated eighth seed UMass-Dartmouth (15-3)
in its first round game.
Tied 1-1 after the first quarter, KSC scored the first three
goals of the second quarter to take a 4-1 lead. RWU scored
with just 14 second to play in the quarter and added an early third
quarter goal by Jason Colangelo (Norwalk, Conn.) to cut the deficit
to 5-4.
Greg Richard (Nashua, N.H.) scored his second goal of the game a
minute later and Greg Gonzalez (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) added one
more goal to push the Owls' lead to 7-4 after three quarters.
Braniciforte, the Little East Offensive Player of the Year,
netted two more goals and Artie Drews (Concord, N.H.) scored to
wrap up the scoring by KSC. Eric Momnie (South Windsor,
Conn.) also scored for the Owls. Branciforte has scored 38
goals this season.
Adam Vickers (Hingham, Mass.) had two goals and Doug D'Auria
(Wilton, Conn.) also tallied for Roger Williams. Keene State
outshot the Hawks 53-20.
Eric Delisle (Amherst, N.H.) had nine saves for KSC while Jamie
McCoy (Nantucket, Mass.) stopped 21 shots for RWU, which concludes
its season with a 10-7 record. KSC has lost in the ECAC semifinals
the past two years.
It was the first meeting between the two teams.
