'SPRINGFIELD, MASS. 5/8/04 - Senior Marco Le Gette (Severna
Park, MD) scored four goals and junior CJ Annunciata (Waltham,
Mass.) added two goals and two assists as top-seeded Western New
England College rallied for a 10-6 victory over fourth seed Keene
State College in a semifinal round game of the 2004 ECAC Division
III New England men's lacrosse tournament.
WNEC will host either second-seeded Babson or third-seeded
Wheaton on Sunday (1 p.m.) in the championship game.
Freshman Adam Cherry (Westfield, Mass.) chipped-in with two
goals and an assist as the Golden Bears (13-7) tied the school
record for wins previously set in 1996. Freshman goalie Matt
Pendelbury (North Hunterdon, N.J.) compiled 12 saves.
Keene State jumped to a 4-1 lead in the second period before
Annunciata scored with seven seconds remaining in the half to cut
the margin to 4-2. The Golden Bears then outscored the Owls
6-1 in the third quarter. Junior long stick middle Pat Barone
(Weymouth, Mass.) had his first career goal at 8:24 to pull WNEC
within one at 5-4, then Le Gette tied the contest 1:03 later.
Cherry then fired home what proved to be the game-winner at the
5:48 mark and hit the back of the net again 33 seconds later.
Junior Eric Momnie (South Windsor, Conn.) led KSC with three
goals, while junior Meade MacKay (Stratham, N.H.) and freshman Sean
Panora (South Windsor, Conn.) each had a goal and two
assists. Junior goalie Eric Delisle (Amherst, N.H.) finished
with 16 saves.
KSC concludes its season at 11-7.
