NORTH DARTMOUTH, MASS. 1/22/05 - Sean Sullivan (Athol, Mass.)
scored a career high 29 points to lead the Keene State College
men's basketball team to a 95-78 Little East Conference victory
over UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday at the Tripp Athletic Center.
The victory snapped a three game LEC losing skid for the Owls
(8-7, 3-4 LEC) while the Corsairs drop to 7-8 (2-5 LEC).
David Sontag (Mont Vernon, N.H.) finished 17 points and 11
rebounds and Harley Davis (Newburyport, Mass.) added 13 points a
career-best 15 rebounds for the Owls.
Falling behind 47-43 at halftime, KSC regrouped and outscored
the Corsairs 52-31 in the second half. The Owls took the lead for
good 66-65 on a lay-up by Anthony Licitra (Glastonbury, Conn.) with
11 minutes to play. KSC went on a 13-6 run from there to go up
79-71. "I think we got our legs under us in the second half and we
picked it up offensively," said KSC Coach Rob Colbert. "We were a
little bit more free-wheeling and less structured."
Colbert was pleased with the overall play of Sullivan, who had a
disappointing outing against Plymouth State earlier this week.
"Sully was very special today," Colbert said. "In addition to doing
a good defensive job on (Chris) Lapriore (Grafton, Mass.), he was
more assertive going to the basket and getting to the line. We got
to the line a lot and got some of their players off the court."
Sullivan hit 10 of 12 from the line while KSC was 28-for-43
overall.
Lapriore finished with 16 points and eight rebounds and Amilton
Taveres (New Bedford, Mass.) added 12 points for UMD.
It marked the second straight year KSC has swept the series
against UMD. The Owls defeated the Corsairs 77-69 earlier this
season in Keene. KSC is scheduled to play at Eastern Conn. on
Tuesday (7:30 p.m.). The game could be postponed due to the death
of ECSU men's player Antwoine Key.
