Owls drop to Williams 3-2 in OT.

'WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - Sophomore Gabrielle Woodson scored with 13 seconds left in the first overtime session Wednesday to lift the Williams College women's soccer team to a 3-2 win over Keene State at Cole Field.  The win puts Williams back on the winning track, giving them an 8-1-2 record.

The Ephs held a slim one goal lead for the majority of the second half and as time ticked away, it looked as though they would be able to coach Michelyne Pinard a win on her 30th birthday.  But the Keene Owls continued to pressure and with just two minutes remaining, Kathleen Keniston tied the score at 2-2.

As things became frantic around the Williams goal, a mis-hit clear didn't put the ball out of danger and Keniston was able to slide her shot past a diving Sarah Ginsburg.

As the sunlight faded and the field became darker and darker, Williams did exactly that, scoring with 13 seconds remaining in the first overtime period.  During a tight scrum in front of Owl keeper Elisabeth Rosen, Woodson found herself in the right place at the right time and knocked in a loose ball for the game-winner.

Hungry well describes Williams' first half play.  The Ephs controlled the ball and the tempo for the first 45 minutes, creating multiple scoring chances and forcing Rosen to make four quality saves.  But the Owls were the ones to strike first.  After 40 minutes of play, Keniston took a direct kick from about 25 yards out.  She placed it behind the defensive wall and Renee Halsey was able to fire it in off the first bounce.

Sarah Walmsley ('10) started the second half scoring with a beautiful shot to the upper right corner.  Jess Hing ('07) crossed the ball from about 40 yards out and Walmsley faked out her defender allowing her to tie the game at 1-1.

Just four minutes later, the Ephs picked up their first lead of the game as Ana Sani ('08) scored off a pass from Terri Van Horn ('07).  Walmsley's initial cross found Woodson but quickly bounced back out wide.  Van Horn hit the second cross, sending it high enough to avoid defenders but falling just in time for Sani to find it with her head for the goal.

The Owls will travel to Rhode Island College on Saturday for a 1 o'clock start.
