Owls Rout UM-Boston 9-0; Wagner Sets Assist Mark

'BOSTON, MASS 10/28/06- Junior forward Lauren Buchan (Ashland, MA) and sophomore midfielder Jenna Gately (Canton, Mass.) each netted a pair of goals and Tara Wagner broke the Owl career assist record as the Keene State College women's soccer team routed  University of Massachusetts Boston, 9-0, in a Little East Conference match this afternoon at the Clark Athletic Center.  The game was shortened to 70:15 due to heavy rain.  The Beacons fall to 3-14-1 overall and 0-7-0 in LEC play, while the Owls improve to 12-7-0 and 5-2-0.

Keene State netted five goals in the first 19:04 of play, including the first goal of the match just 1:46 into the contest when junior Renee Halsey (Francestown, NH) scored to give the Owls a 1-0 lead.

Courtney Gately (Canton, Mass.), Katie Stevens (Londonderry, N.H.), Kathleen Keniston (Minneapolis, Minn.), and Katrina Stauch (New Lebanon, N.H.).  also found the back of the net for the Owls.

Wagner's career record assist came at the 13:14 mark when she set up Stevens for the Owl's third goal.  Wagner, a senior from Avon, Conn., now has 32 career assists breaking the previous mark set by KSC coach Denise Lyons during her playing days (1986-89).  "I'm very happy for her," said Lyons.  "It's nice when one of your own players can break the record."

Keene State College owned a 31-2 shot advantage.

Freshman keeper Jessica Penta (Revere, MA) stopped six shots for UMass Boston and allowed six goals, before becoming injured with 5:51 left in the first half.  Senior defender Elizabeth Erlandson (East Boston, MA) played the final 31:06 of the match for UMB, allowing two goals, while making eight saves.  Keene State freshman keeper Jen Johnson (Goshen, NY) stopped the only shot on net to earn the victory and the rain-shortened shutout.

The Beacons season is complete, while the Owls will play on Tuesday, October 31 in the first round of the Little East Conference Tournament with the opponent and time yet to be decided.
