M. Basketball: Owls Get By Pilgrims 92-77

'CONCORD, N.H. 11/28/06 - Keen State College won their seventh game in seven tries in the Jacob's Bridge Through Autism Classic with a 92-77 win over New England College at NHTI in Concord on Tuesday. 

 

 

Junior forward Travon Little (Danbury, Ct./Danbury HS) led the Owls with season best 20 points, 13 rebounds, two steals and one block. Tyler Kathan (Ludlow, Vt./Springfield) also had a double-double for Keene State with 16 points and 16 rebounds. Kathan tied the rebound record for the tournament, which was set in 2000 by Keene State's Kyle Purinton.

 

 

Kathan complimented Little on his play.  "Travon brings enthusiasm and athleticism to the team, he said.  He's really fits into the team." 

 

 

David Sontag (Mont Vernon, NH/Souhegan) was the only other Owl in double figures with 10 points. Shiwon Davis (Bridgeport, Conn./Bunnelle HS) finished with seven points and seven assists.

 

 

Despite racing out to a 17-5 lead to start the game, the Owls held just a slim three point lead at halftime.  KSC wasn't able to pull away from NEC until the final 10 minutes of the game.  Holding a five point lead (65-60), KSC went on a 13-4 run, capped by a Little lay-up that made it 78-64 with 6:12 to play.

 

 

"New Englands' guard play was tremendous," said KSC Coach Rob Colbert.  "Fortunately, we were able to get some miss-matches and wear them down."

 

 

"They're a tough duo," added Davis.  We finally buckled down, played hard and got the win."

 

 

Pilgrim guards Tyler Evans (Hartford, Ct./Manchester HS) finished with 26 points and  . Patrick Quinn (Holbrook, NY/Sachem HS) tallied 19 for the Pilgrims. Antoine Sylvia (Brockton, Ma./Thayer Academy) had a solid effort with 12 points, seven rebounds and five blocks.

 

 

Keene State (3-0) plays again Dec. 2 at Rhode Island College. NEC returns to the court Dec. 2 with a home game against Thomas College.
