M. Lax: Hazelton Leads Owls Over UMB 15-7

KEENE, N.H. 4/8/06 - Sophomore midfielder Ryan Hazelton (Chester, N.H.) scored four goals to lead the Keene State College men's lacrosse team to a 15-7 Little East Conference victory over UMass-Boston at Owl Athletic Complex on Saturday. Haselton has 13 goals this season.

Keene State improves to 7-1 (2-0) while UMass-Boston drops to 3-2 (1-1 LEC).

The Owls, ranked 13th in this week's NEILA poll, jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the first quarter and led 9-2 at halftime.

UMB midfielder Kyle Sullivan (Duxbury, Mass.) netted a pair of unanswered goals to cut the Owls lead to 9-4 early in the third quarter, but KSC came back to score the next six goals to secure the victory.

Mike Fontaine (Wolfeboro, N.H.), had three goals, Sean Panora (South Windsor, Conn.) and Peter Lauranzano (Beverly, Mass.) added two goals each.  Panora tops KSC with 27 goals.  Casey Brodersen (Derry, N.H.), Ryan Githmark Cheshire, Conn.), Tony Santa Fe (Derry, N.H.), and Grant Pickering (Kennebunk, Me.) finished with single goals for the Owls.

Christopher Hanafin (Burlington, Mass.), Robert Thayer (West Tisbury, Mass.), and Sullivan finished with two goals each for the Beacons.

Goalie Matt Johnson (Derry, N.H.) had nine saves for Keene State.  Nick Easton (Rowley, Mass.) had a busy day in goal for UMB with 19 saves.

Keene State out-shot UMB 58-24.

Keene State hosts rival Plymouth State on Wednesday (4 p.m.).  UMass-Boston is at Southern Maine on Thursday (4 p.m.).
