Women's Soccer: Owls Blank USM 3-0

'GORHAM, Maine 9/23/06 --  Three different players scored and freshman goalkeeper Liz Rosen (Swanzey, N.H./Mt. Mansfield) made two saves as the Keene State College Owls defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies 3-0 in a Little East Conference women's soccer match under drizzly skies Saturday afternoon at the USM Soccer Field.

The win snapped a two-match losing skid for the Owls who improved to 5-4-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the conference.  The Huskies dropped their fourth in a row to fall to 1-6-0 overall and 0-2-0 in the conference.

Senior Tara Wagner (Avon, Conn.) gave the Owls a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute when she collected a loose ball and place a shot from about 12 yards out past USM sophomore goalkeeper Alison Bradley (Auckland, New Zealand) into the left side of the net for her fourth goal of the season.

The Owls put the match away with a pair of goals 48 seconds apart early in the second half.  Freshman Molly Brunelle (Walpole, N.H./Fall Mountain) converted out of a scramble in the box for her fifth goal of the season at 58:14.

Less than a minute later, Brunelle made a nice move down the right side to help trigger the Owls' third goal.  Brunelle crossed the ball to the top of the box where senior Courtney Gately (Canton, Mass.) gained possession.  Gately made a move around the USM defender, then passed off to freshman Kendra Spencer (Petoskey, Mich.) who put the ball into the net for her third goal of the season.

Rosen was not tested in the opening 45 minutes before making two saves in the second half to earn her second shutout of the season.  Bradley finished the match with seven saves.  Keene State had a 16-6 advantage in shots and a 6-0 margin in corner kicks.

Southern Maine will host Salem State College in a non-conference match on Thursday (4:00 p.m.).  Keene State will host Clark University under the lights on Tuesday (6:30 p.m.).
