'KEENE, N.H. 1/9/07 - Tyler Kathan (Ludlow, Vt.) had 21
points and nine re- bounds to lead four Owls in double figures as
Keene State remained undefeated in Little East play with a 101-88
men's basketball victory over Western Conn. State University at
Spaulding Gym on Tuesday.
Winners of six straight, KSC improves to 11-1 (4-0 LEC) while
WCSU falls to 9-5 and 3-1 in conference play.
The Owls raced out to a 13 point lead (26-13) early in the first
half on a basket by Nick Drouin (Weare, N.H.). The Colonials
cut the lead to three points (33-30) on a hoop by Jamie Procino
(Yorktown Heights, N.Y.). KSC pulled away again taking an 11 point
lead (50-39) into the locker room.
KSC wore down the Colonials in the second half, extending its
lead to 18 points (70-52) midway in the second half.
"Because of our depth, fatigue becomes an issue when we play
opponents," said KSC Coach Rob Colbert. "When we force
defenses to sprint, that cumulative effect over 40 minutes
hopefully takes its course.
David Sontag (Mont Vernon, N.H.) had 17 points, including four
three-pointers; Nate Anderson (Westminster, Mass.) added 16 points
and nine rebounds, and Anthony Licitra (Glastonbury, Conn.)
finished with 15 points to round out the double figure scorers for
the Owls. Matt Hickey (Mahopac, N.Y.) also chipped in with
eight assists.
Tyshawn Gillespie (Hartford, Conn.) had 14 points and Procino
added 13 points, and Carlos Pellot (Carmel, N.Y.) finished with 12
points and nine rebounds for the Colonials. Jeff Cappa (Waterbury,
Conn.) had 11 points and
Marcus Mann had 10 points and four rebounds for WCSU.
KSC is home on Thursday for a non-conference game against
Springfield College (7:30 p.m.).
