Women's Soccer

Owls Celebrate Senior Day; Defeat UMB 7-0

KEENE, N.H. 10/20/07 - Michelle Boland (Worcester, Mass.) and Kathleen Keniston (Minneapolis, Minn.) scored two goals each to lead the Keene State College women's soccer team to a 7-0 Little East Conference shutout victory over UMass-Boston in Keene on Saturday. 


Keniston was one of six KSC seniors who were honored prior to the start of the game along with Renee Halsey (Francestown, N.H.), Lauren Buchan (Ashland, Mass.), Ally Beadle (East Hartford, Conn.), Jessica Pepin (Bow, N.H.), Amy St. John (Barre, Vt.).  Halsey and Buchan also scored for the Owls (9-7-1, 4-2 LEC).


Keene State led 1-0 at the break and exploded for six unanswered goals in the second half. 


Renee Halsey (Francestown, N.H.) had a chance to give KSC an early lead, but UMB goalie Ashley McRoberts (Merrimack, N.H.) got a hand on her break away bid.


Halsey didn't miss her second opportunity.  Sent in alone on a pass from Molly Brunelle (Walpole, N.H.), the senior forward netted her fifth goal of the season to give KSC a 1-0 lead at the 12:10 mark.


Kristi Morales (San Francisco, Ca.) had a break away for the Beacons, but her shot went wide of the far post. 


Owl players hit three posts and one cross bar, but were unable to add to their lead before halftime.


Early in the second half, Keene State scored four goals in a span of eight minutes to go up 5-0. Boland scored twice and Stephanie Passerini (Wakefield, Mass.) and Kat Keniston (Minneapolis, Minn.) added single goals   Lauren Buchan (Ashland, Mass.) and Keniston scored later in the half. 


Samantha Hirsh (Holliston, Mass.) (three saves) and Margaret Flannagan (Lebanon, N.H.) (one save) and Shaina McMahon (Litchfied, N.H.) (one save) shared the shutout for the Owls. 


McRoberts finished the game with 16 saves for the Beacons (4-10-1, 0-5-1 LEC)


Keene State will travel to Bridgewater State on Wednesday (3:30 p.m.).  UMass-Boston returns home to face Regis College on Monday (3 p.m.).
