BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - Senior forward Renee Halsey (Francestown,
NH) snapped a scoreless tie in the game's 69th minute to lift the
Keene State College Owls to a 1-0 victory over host Bridgewater
State this afternoon from rainy Swenson Field in Bridgewater.
With the win, Keene State improves to 10-7-1 on the season as the
Owls have won four of their last five games. Bridgewater
falls to 7-7-1 as the Bears have dropped three of their last four.
Halsey's goal, her 6th of the season, came as a result of a
terrific play by sophomore midfielder Kendra Spencer. (Petoskey,
MI) Spencer fed a pass between two defenders from the 35 to
the top of the goaltender box and Halsey rifled a shot to the top
right-corner of the goal.
Junior goaltender Samantha Hirsch (Holliston, MA) turned aside 7
shots to register her third shutout of the season for the
Owls. Bridgewater State junior Ashley Spingler (West
Springfield, MA) made 9 saves between the pipes for the Bears.
Keene held an 18 to 14 advantage in shots for the game while both
teams had three corner kicks apiece. Bridgewater was whistled
for 8 offsides in the game including 6 in the first half.
Bridgewater State wraps up the regular season on Saturday as the
Bears host a key MASCAC game against Framingham State. The
team will honor their five seniors who will be playing in their
final regular season home game. Keene travels to Western
Connecticut State on Saturday for a 6 o'clock Little East
Conference match with the Colonials.
