SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Senior forward Travon Little (Danbury, CT)
and senior guard Kevin Ritter (Hopewell Junction, NY) each scored
17 points as visiting Keene State remained undefeated with a 90-71
victory over Western New England College in a non-league men's
basketball game Tuesday evening (Nov. 20).
The Owls improve their record to 3-0 while the Golden Bears (who
were making their home debut) fall to 1-2.
Ritter connected on 7-of-8 shots from the field while Little had a
big game with seven rebounds and three steals.
Senior point guard Matt Hickey (Mahopac, NY) added 15 points after
making 5-of-7 three-pointers while senior guard Anthony Licitra
(Glastonbury, CT) came off the bench to score 11 points. Junior
forward Tyler Kathan (Ludlow, VT) was the fifth KSC player in
double figures with 10 points.
"It was a good all around game, we were all stroking it tonight, "
said Hickey. "We had a good flow out there and ran them off
the court.'
"I thought today was our best offensive game. We moved the ball
well and everyone was into it," Hickey said.
Keene State led 45-33 at half-time and used a 16-4 run in the
opening 3:56 of the second half to open up a commanding 61-37
advantage.
Western New England College senior point guard Asif Abdul-Wadud
(Springfield, MA) led four players in double figures with 16
points. He also contributed five rebounds and a game high four
steals. Freshman forward Brad Thomka (Springfield, MA) netted 14
points and pulled down seven rebounds in a reserve role.
Junior guard Matt Maynard (Paterson, NJ) chipped in with 13 points
while junior forward Kyle Fredette (Wallingford, VT) had 12 points,
eight rebounds, and five blocked shots.
"It's going to be a much nicer holiday," said KSC Coach Rob
Colbert. Against a team like WNEC, you can get caught shooting too
many quick threes. But when Hickey and Licitra erupt like
that makes it alot easier.
Keene State shot 51.6% from the field and made 16-for-26
three-pointers (61.5%). Western New England College shot 40% from
the floor, but made only 1-of-14 three-point attempts. The 16
three-pointers is four short of the KSC record of 20 set against
LIU/Southampton on Dec. 5, 1992.
The Golden Bears are coached by former Owl player Mike Theulen.
Theulen, who also serves as the athletic director at WNEC is the
son of former Owl head coach Glenn Theulen.
Following the Thanksgiving holiday, KSC will face Colby-Sawyer
College on Tuesday, Nov. 27 at the Jacob's Bridge Through Autism
Tournament at NHIT (7:30 p.m.).
