BRONX, N.Y. 9/22/07 - The extended distance (6K) and
warm temperatures at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx didn't slow
down Keene State's Breanne Lucey who raced to victory at the 13th
Annual John "Paddy" Doyle Meet of Champions on Saturday.
It was the second win in as many races for the senior runner
from Keene who also took first at the Dartmouth Invitational
earlier this season.
"I went out a little slower because of the distance and the
weather," said Lucey, who clocked a winning time of 21:30. "I
felt good around the two mile mark and started to move up."
Reeling in the rest of the field, Lucey, caught the leader
Serena Ramsey, an unattached runner, at the 5K mark and used her
kick over the last 400-meters to open up her four second
victory.
"Considering the weather and the strong field, I was very
pleased with my performance," Lucey said.
Keene State tallied 174 points to finish fourth in the 21 team
field that included 13 Division I squads. Penn State won the
team title with 48 points.
Jennifer Adams (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) also had a strong race
for the Owls, ranked 15th nationally and third in New
England. She placed 14th with a time of 22:40. Adele
Zocher (Branford, Conn.) (42nd, 23:59), Nicole Slane (Guilford,
N.H.) (46th, 24:02), and Katelyn Carr (71st, 24:47) round-out the
list of Owl scorers at the meet.
The Owls host the KSC Invitational next Saturday.
