KEENE, N.H. 10/18/08 - Sophomore forward Katie Bradford
(Lebanon, N.H.) had two goals and two assists to lead the Keene
State women's soccer team to a 5-0 shutout victory over
UMass-Dartmouth in Little East Conference action on Saturday.
Bradford's two goals gives her an LEC leading 14 this season. "You
get open shots and great passes and it all comes together
sometimes," said Bradford. We want to host a first-round and
maybe a second round LEC tournament game here."
Keene State jumped out to a 3-0 halftime lead. Senior
midfielder Michelle Boland (Worcester, Mass.) knocked in a crossing
ball from Bradford at the 1:17 mark. It was Boland's eighth
goal of the season and fourth marker in the last two games.
Freshman forward Sia Karamourtopolos (Freemont, N.H.) gave KSC a
2-0 lead with her fifth goal of the season at the 8:37 mark.
Bradford set up the goal with a short lead pass.
Bradford finished off a crossing ball from sophomore forward Nora
Mahoney (Belchertown, Mass.) at the 20:12 mark to stake KSC to a
3-0 lead at the break.
The Corsairs best opportunity to score came with 9:05 to play in
the first half when sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Duarte's (New
Bedford, Mass.) direct kick just went wide of the far post.
UMD sophomore goalie Tanya Bragna (Hudson, Mass.) prevented the
Owls from extended their lead when she made a diving stop of a
direct kick off the foot of freshman midfielder Tara Nathan
(Bethel, Conn.) 10 minutes into the second half.
Later, junior midfielder Molly Brunelle (Walpole, N.H.) deflected a
cross by Nathan into the top corner of the lead to make it a 4-0
game at the 59:08 mark.
Bradford completed the scoring with her second goal of the game.
Taking a pass from junior midfielder Kendra Spencer (Petoskey,
Mich.), Bradford stepped around UMD goalie Jennifer Denker
(Holliston, Mass.) and put the ball into the open net.
Owl junior goalie Samantha Hirsh (Holliston, Mass.), and freshmen
Ashley Molloy (Manchester, N.H.), and Lea Swanson (Wakefield, R.I.)
shared the shutout for the Owls (12-4, 4-1 LEC), who have won three
straight. Molly made the only save.
Braga played the first 69:12 and made four saves. Denker
played the final 20:41 and made one stop for UMD (3-6-4, 1-2-2
LEC).
Keene State is at Williams College on Wednesday (3:30 p.m.).
UMass-Dartmouth is at Emerson College on Thursday (6 p.m.).
