KEENE,
N.H. 4/10/07 - Peter Lauranzano (Beverly, Mass.) appears to be back
at full strength. After missing the first two games of the
year, the Owls' senior attack scored a season high four goals and
dished out three assists to lead Keene State to a 18-6 victory over
Plymouth State University in Little East men's lacrosse action
Thursday afternoon in Keene.
With the scored knotted at three-all after the first quarter, Keene
State eight unanswered goals. The Owls led 9-3 at the half
and 12-4 ant the end of three quarters.
Lauranzano can thank teammate Tony Santa Fe (Derry, N.H.) for his
breakout game. "They were looking at Tony so much I just had
a lot of open shots," said Lauranzano, who upped his goal
production to six on the season.
Santa Fe finished the game with three goals and three assists while
Ryan Hazelton (Chester, N.H.), Michael Fontaine (Wolfeboro, N.H.),
Josh Nugent (Cheshire, Conn.), and Jamie Lesage (Exeter, N.H.) had
two goals each. Casey Brodersen (Derry, N.H.), Alex Loscialpo
(Westport, Conn.) and Warren Dill (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) had
single goals for the undefeated Owls (6-0, 3-0 LEC) ranked 18th
nationally.
Sophomore attack Brian Giroux (Wolfeboro Falls, N.H.) had three
goals to lead Plymouth State (5-3, 0-3 LEC). Tony Aguir
(Northborough, Mass.), Tim Hadley (New London, N.H.), and Tyler
Snow (Loudon, N.H.) also had goals for the Panthers.
Despite the one-side game, Lauranzano said the rivalry hasn't lost
its luster. "We want to show we're the best in New Hampshire," he
said. "This is still a huge game for us."
Matt Johnson (Derry, N.H.) made nine saves for the owls before
giving way to Billy Brooks (Lewiston, Me.) who stopped two shots.
Both Billy Morgan (Winchester, Mass.) and Kevin Hayes (Beverly,
Mass.) saw action in goal for PSU. Morgan made nine saves and Hayes
stopped eight shots.
Prior to the game, KSC Coach Mark Theriault was honored for
reaching the 100-career win milestone earlier in the season against
UMass-Dartmouth.
Keene State has won the last seven games against their rivals.
Both teams are scheduled to play road LEC games on Saturday. The
Owls are at Western Conn. and the Panthers are at UMass-Boston.
