KEENE, N.H. (12/27/09) - On day two of the 2009 Cheshire Tire/Ted's Shoe & Sport Holiday Basketball Tournament, the first game was a back-and-forth battle with the Lebanon Raiders defeating the Smithfield (RI) Sentinels 52-38 on Sunday afternoon at Spaulding Gymnasium.

Smithfield (RI) jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter paced by Aaron Brown and Chris Bennett with three points apiece. Lebanon would go on a 10-2 run to close out the period on a layup and a foul from Raider forward Jacob Woodward for the 13-10 lead.

In the second quarter, Sentinel senior Matthew Benoit came off the bench to chip in with six points, two rebounds and an assist.  Lebanon countered with Woodward's seven in the period for 13 total points to take a 23-22 lead into the locker room.

In the fourth, the Raiders continued to apply pressure and jumped out to a 39-30 lead on a fast-break steal and layup from Woodward. Smithfield (RI) hung tough, with just over five minutes remaining, Sentinel forward Kyle Morvan's old-fashioned three point play cut the lead to 39-33.

Smithfield (RI) continued to cut into the lead, and got as close as five on a bucket from Brown with 2:26 left in the fourth. But that is as close as they would get as Woodward finished with 20 points en route to the 52-38 victory.
