ORLANDO, FLA. 3/19/09 - The Keene State men's lacrosse team lost
to Geneseo (N.Y.) State in a battle of nationally ranked teams in
Orlando, Florida on Thursday.
Geneseo, ranked 27th in the latest USILA Coaches poll, improves
to 3-1 while Keene State (2-1), ranked #30, suffered its first loss
of the season.
Senior Mike Cintineo scored five of his game-high seven goals in
a row, spanning 11 minutes of the second and third quarters to
break the game open for Geneseo.
Griffin Meehan (Simsbury, Conn.) and
Casey Brodersen (Derry, N.H.) each had two goals
and Tony Santa Fe (Derry, N.H.) dished out four
assists to lead the Owls.
"They're a small and shifty team," said KSC Coach Mark
Theriault about the Knights. "We had a hard time
with getting possession and spent a lot of time on defense.
We also hurt ourselves with penalties."
Keene State sophomore goalie Alec Corliss
(Waltham, Mass.) was a busy man between the pipes, facing 32 shots
and making 20 saves.
Senior Dennis Costanza made 11 saves and allowed five goals over
53:30 in posting the win for Geneseo, while first year Noah Berg
allowed one goal and made one save over the final 6:30.
The Owls return from their spring week trip on Friday and play
at Bowdoin College on March 25.
