KEENE, N.H. 4/14/09 - Keene State College defeated
UMass-Boston 15-6 in Little East Conference men's lacrosse action
at Owl Athletic Complex on Tuesday.
The Owls (5-3, 3-1 LEC) jumped out to an 8-0 lead after the
first quarter and led 10-1 at the half. KSC began the game by
netting three quick goals in the first two minutes of
play. Senior midfielder Casey Brodersen (Derry, N.H.)
scored a pair of goals 40 seconds apart to make it 2-0.
Following a steal, senior attack Tony Santa Fe (Derry, N.H.) fed
freshman Griffin Meehan who gave the Owls a 3-0 lead at the 13:04
mark. Senior attack Rodney Arganese (Trumbull, Conn.)
completed the uprising by scoring in the final second of play.
KSC tacked on five more goals the rest of the quarter, two by
Santa Fe.
"Our starting group played really well and banged in eight goals
in the first quarter," said KSC Coach Mark Theriault. "We
could have scored a lot more goals, but it was nice to get everyone
in and give the guys some experience."
Keene State got goals from 12 different players with junior
attack Dax Greene (Westborough, Mass.), Brodersen, and Santa Fe
each netting a pair.
UMass-Boston (1-8, 0-4 LEC) got two goals from sophomore attack
John Canty (Milton, Mass.) and single goals from junior midfielders
Dale Nunn (Hillsborough, N.J.) and Al Craven (Milton, Mass.),
junior attack Aaron Pollack (Belmont, Mass.), and senior defenseman
Matt Dunn (Milton, Mass.).
Making his first start in goal, freshman David Brochu (Derry,
N.H.) made eight saves. Freshman Kevin LeSage (Exeter, N.H.)
took over in the second half and stopped four shots.
UMB freshman goalie Anthony Fitti (Havertown, Pa.) finished the
game with seven saves.
Keene State plays its remaining three regular season games on
the road, starting at Western Conn. on Saturday. UMass-Boston
travels to Eastern Conn. on Saturday.
