DANBURY, CONN. 4/18/09 - The Keene State men's lacrosse
team jumped out to an early lead and held on for 14-11 Little East
Conference victory over Western Connecticut State University in
Danbury, Conn. on Saturday.
Freshman Griffin Meehan (Simsbury, Conn.) had a
big day for the Owls (6-3, 4-1 LEC) with five goals and three
assists.
Keene State scored the first seven goals of the game with Meehan
finding the back of the net three times.
WCSU (3-10, 1-4 LEC) cut the Owls lead to 7-5 at the start of
the third quarter, but KSC responded with goals by seniors
Tony Santa Fe (Derry, N.H.), Casey
Brodersen (Derry, N.H.,) and Rodney
Arganese (Trumbull, Conn.) to build their lead back to
five goals (10-5).
Western got the deficit down to two goals twice in the fourth
quarter, the last coming at the 2:15 mark on a goal by Adam
Lanehart that made it 13-11. Junior Jamie
LeSage (Exerter, N.H.) scored the last goal for the Owls
with 1:29 to go.
Arganese had three goals and Santa Fe added two goals and three
assists for KSC. Brodersen, LeSage, sophomore Mike
Araujo (Southborough, Mass.), and junior Dax
Greene (Westborough, Mass.) had single goals for the Owls.
KSC sophomore goalie Alec Corliss (Waltham,
Mass.) finished the game with 14 saves. WCSU goalie Tyler
Martone stopped 11 shots.
Keene State travels to rival Plymouth State on Tuesday.
