PLYMOUTH, N.H. 4/21/09 - Freshman Griffin
Meehan (Simsbury, Conn.) made his only two goals count,
scoring the tying and go-ahead goals 40 seconds apart midway in the
fourth quarter giving Keene State a 6-5 Little East Conference
victory over rival Plymouth State on Tuesday.
Plymouth junior Brian Giroux (Wolfeboro Falls, N.H.) scored
back-to-back goals to give the Panthers their first lead of the
game (5-4) at the 9:18 mark of the fourth quarter. Less than
two minutes later, Meehan tied the game on an assist from
Tony Santa Fe (Derry, N.H.) and netted the
game-winner moments later.
"Rodney (Arganese) got me the ball on a fast
break and all I had to do was put it in the net," said Meehan, who
leads the Owls in scoring with 29 goals. "It wasn't pretty,
but timely."
The Owls, who were held scoreless in the second quarter,
struggled all game on the soggy Panther field. "I don't think we
responded well to the weather conditions," said KSC Coach
Mark Theriault. "The way we player, we
didn't give ourselves many scoring opportunities."
Tied 2-2 at the half, KSC took a 4-2 lead on a pair of goals by
Casey Brodersen (Derry, N.H.). Junior Matt
Johansmeyer scored to make it 4-3 and Giroux followed with two more
before Meehan settled matters.
Arganese (Trumbull, Conn.) and Jamie Lesage (Exeter, N.H.) also
scored for the Owls (7-3, 5-1 LEC).
Sophomore Alec Corliss (Waltham, Mass.)
finished the game with 15 saves for KSC. Sophomore Kevin
Hayes (Beverly, Mass.) stopped seven shots for PSU (5-7, 3-3 LEC).
Keene State concludes its regular season at Southern Maine on
Saturday.
