GORHAM, MAINE 4/25/09 - The Keene State College men's
lacrosse team raced out to a 6-0 lead in the first quarter and
never looked back en route to a 19-5 victory over the University of
Southern Maine in a Little East Conference game Saturday afternoon
at Hodgdon Field.
The Owls (8-3, 6-1 LEC), who have won four straight, secure the
second seed in the upcoming LEC tournament. They will get a
first-round bye and host a semifinal game on Thursday.
The Huskies (10-6, 4-2 LEC), who saw their five game winning
streak come to an end, will be the third seed and host a
quarterfinal game against six seed Salem State on Tuesday.
Freshman Griffin Meehan (Simsbury, Conn.) and
senior Rodney Arganese (Trumbull, Conn.) paced the
potent KSC attack with three goals and two assists apiece. Senior
Casey Brodersen (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton Academy)
and sophomore Cam Sousa (Hollis, N.H./Hollis
Brookline) each had three goals. Senior Tony Santa
Fe (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) had a goal and three
assists.
Arganese and Brodersen each scoring a pair of goals as KSC took
a 6-0 lead after the first quarter. The two teams traded goals in
the second quarter, making it an 8-2 game at the half.
KSC scored five unanswered goals in the third quarter to go up
13-2. Meehan, who had two of his goals in the quarter, lead the
Owls with 32 goals.
Preston Gilbert and Lee Gauthier had two goals each to lead USM.
Sophomore Alec Corliss (Waltham, Mass.) started
in goal for KSC and had seven saves. Freshman Kevin
LeSage (Exeter, N.H.) played the final 15 minutes and
stopped two shots.
James Suriyodorn made 17 saves for the Huskies.
