SAN JUAN, P.R. 1/4/10 - The Keene State men's and women's swim
teams won a combined 10 out of 16 events in a non-scoring dual meet
against Ithaca College at Sacred Heart University in San Juan,
Puerto Rico on Monday. Both teams participated in the meet after a
grueling morning workout and the athletes rose to the challenge
with strong performances.
Instead of racing in a 25-yard pool, the meet was held in a
50-meter pool.
The Keene State men won seven races. Senior
Domingo Rose (Nashua, N.H.) and sophomore
Harrison Hollingsworth (Derry, N.H.) were double
winners for the Owls. Rose won the 50-meter (26.48) and
100-meter breast (1:13.61) races while Hollingsworth was the first
swimmer to the wall in the 100-meter free (59.00) and the 100-meter
back (1:07.20).
Other first-place finishes were posted by junior DJ
Collis (Laconia, N.H.) in the 100-meter fly (1:04.59), and
freshman Ray Estrada, a newcomer to the program
from Bellingham, Mass., in the 200 I.M. (2; 28.00).
Junior Lucas Pozzetta (Merrimack, N.H.) teamed
up with Hollingsworth, Rose, and Collis to win the 200-meter medley
relay (2:01.41).
The Keene State women won three races against a strong Ithaca
College team. Sophomore Maureen O'Leary
(Nashua, N.H.) won the 100-meter fly (1:15.50), freshman
Kaila Umbarger (Chelmsford, Mass.) won the
50-meter free (28.57), and senior Alea Paddock (Newbury,
N.H.) won the 200-meter I.M.
The Keene State women return to competition with a meet at
Plymouth State University on Wed., Jan. 13.
