PROVIDENCE, R.I. 10/2/10 – The Keene State College women's soccer team netted a season-high mark for goals in a 8-2 Little East Conference victory against Rhode Island College in Providence on Saturday.

The Owls, who have scored 14 goals in their last two games, improve to 8-2-2 overall and 2-1 in LEC play, while the loss drops RIC to 6-3 and 1-2 in league play.

Sophomore Joan Hamel (Weare, N.H.) scored twice while senior Katie Bradford (Lebanon, N.H.) tied a school record with four assists.

"Overall it was a good road conference win for us," said head coach Denise Lyons. "We got a good lead into halftime and everyone got some quality playing time for us."

The Owls jumped on the board first, in the 15th minute when freshman forward Jessica Berthiaume (Worcester, Mass.) got a nice pass from Bradford to give KSC a 1-0 lead. It was Berthiaume's team-leading ninth goal of the season.

Seven minutes later, sophomore Erin Griffin (Londonderry, N.H.) out leapt a RIC defender and headed the ball in for the 2-0 Owl advantage. Bradford was again credited with the assist.

KSC continued to add pressure in the games 36th minute, when freshman midfielder Kristen Huckins (Westmoreland, N.H.) chipped the ball into the net after another pass from Bradford beat the RIC defense.

Just before the half, junior back Melissa Dempsey (E. Weymouth, Mass.) scored off a corner kick, on a pass from Hamel to send KSC into the locker room with a 4-0 lead.

The Owls added four more goals in the second half with Hamel scoring her third and fourth goals of the season and freshman Kara Pavlidis (Lee, N.H.) getting her first college goal. KSC was also credited with an own goal.

Alexis Smith and Jessica Graham scored late-game goals for RIC.

KSC peppered the RIC goal with 34 shots.

Both teams used a pair of goalies.  Junior Meghan Dempsey (East Weymouth, Mass.) had three saves and junior Lea Swanson made one stop for KSC.

Maddie Pirri made 11 saves and Abygayle Fisher turned aside one shot for RIC.

KSC is at Williams College on Wednesday.
