Box Score KEENE, N.H. 3/23/10 – The Keene State College
men's lacrosse team lost a 17-10 non-conference game to
Bowdoin College at Owl Athletic Complex on Tuesday afternoon.
Keene State (2-4) dropped its third straight game. Bowdoin
(2-3) snapped a three game losing streak. With the victory, Bowdoin
coach Tom McCabe becomes just the 17th coach in Division III
history to reach the 200-win plateau. With the milestone, Bowdoin
becomes the only school in Division III history with a pair of
200-win coaches, as McCabe joins former coach Mort LaPointe (218
wins, 1970-'90).
After scoring the first goal of the game, the Owls gave up six
straight goals to the Polar Bears. Six different players
found the back of the net for Bowdoin, who led 6-1 after the first
quarter and 11-3 at the half.
“We usually play well at home, but against a team like
this if we don't come to play, you're going to get
jumped on quickly and low and behold that's what
happened,” said KSC Coach Mark Theriault.
The Owls showed some life, scoring two late goals in the third
quarter and the first goal of the fourth to make it 14-7.
Bowdoin followed with a pair of goals to push its lead back up to
16-7.
Sophomore Griffin Meehan (Simsbury, Conn.) led
Keene State with four goals and two assists. Sophomore
Matt Schairer (Wrentham, Mass.) and senior
Jamie LeSage (Exeter, N.H.) each had two goals.
Junior Russell Halliday (Sudbury, Mass.) tallied three goals and
two assists, and freshman Billy Bergner (Fairfield, Conn.) scored
three goals to lead Bowdoin.
Junior Alec Corliss (Waltham, Mass.) started in
goal for KSC and made six saves before giving way to freshman
Jason Lesser (Brewster, N.Y.) early in the second
quarter. Lesser finished the game with six saves.
Junior Robert Burkhardt (St. Louis, Mo.) and sophomore Chris
Williamson (Winnetka, Ill.) each played a half in goal for the
Polar Bears. Burkhadt made one save and Williamson stopped six
shots.
Both teams return to play on Saturday. Keene State hosts Lasell
College at 1 p.m. and Bowdoin travels to Amherst College (2 p.m.).
