BOSTON, MASS. 4/20/10 – Sophomore Griffin
Meehan did a little bit of everything for the Keene State
men's lacrosse team on Tuesday. The sophomore attack
from Simsbury, Conn. had five goals and five assists for a
career-high 10-points, leading the Owls to a 20-7 Little East
Conference win over UMass-Boston at Clark Athletic field.
Winners of four straight, Keene State (7-5, 4-0 LEC) remains on
top of the conference standings. UMass-Boston falls to 4-8
and 0-4 in league play.
The Owls weren't able to shake the battling Beacons until
the third quarter. Holing a 7-4 lead, KSC reeled off three
straight goals in a span of three minutes to go up 10-4. They
added five more goals before the end of the quarter to go up
15-5. Meehan, who leads the team with 41 goals, had two goals
and three assists in the third-quarter flurry.
Sophomore Matt Schairer (Wrentham, Mass.) had
four goals and two assists and sophomore Matt
Crimmins (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), junior Ryan
Shairs (Beverly, Mass.), and sophomore Jack
McCarthy (Redding, Conn.) each found the net twice for the
Owls. Junior Mike Araujo (Southborough, Mass.)
also had a strong game for KSC, winning 15-of-19 face-offs, and
scooping up nine ground balls.
Al Craven scored three goals to lead the Beacons.
Coach Mark Theriault used all three of his
goalies. Freshman Jason Lesser (Brewster,
N.Y.) started and didn't register a save. Junior
Alec Corliss (Waltham, Mass.) and freshman
Tim Donovan (Newton, Mass.) both turned aside two
shots.
Anthony Fitti made 22 saves for UMB.
Keene State hosts Western Conn. on Saturday.
