Owls topple Lancers 5-1

Box Score

KEENE, N.H., 9/29/10 – Senior Katie Bradford (Lebanon, N.H.) scored two goals and junior Bridget Hennessey (Essex Junction, Vt.) found the back of the net with a shot from 40-yard out in Keene State's 5-1 women's soccer victory over Worcester State on Wednesday night.

The Owls (7-2-2) erupted for four first half goals on the way to posting the non-conference victory.  Bradford went around the right corner and deposited the ball into the net to give KSC a 1-0 lead at the 6:25 mark.

Worcester State (4-3-2) tied the game 13 minutes later when junior Sarah Rafferty (Uxbridge, Mass.) put the ball into the top far corner.

Keene State scored three goals in a span of nine minutes to go up 4-1.  Freshmen Kristen Huckins (Westmoreland, N.H.) and Hayley Kenyon (Exeter, R.I.) scored on rebounds before Hennessey netted the goal of the game off a free kick.

"I know at certain parts of the field if I aim it right I can get it in," said Hennessey.  "That was one of my farthest goals, so it felt good when it went in."

Bradford completed the scoring with her second of the game and eighth of the season when she tucked a bad angle shot into the side of the net in the second half.

Keene State outshot the Lancers 12-5 and had a 2-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Junior Meghan Dempsey (East Weymouth, Mass.) finished the game with three saves.  Senior Rachael Armenti (West Boylston, Mass.) and sophomore Angieszaka Sychtysz (Warren, Mass.) each played a half in goal for WSC.  Armenti had one save and Sychtysz stopped two shots.

Hennessey said it was a nice win for KSC after a tough loss to Eastern Conn. on Saturday. "I thought we worked really hard against Eastern, but broke down a little bit," she said.  "But we picked it up today and did what we had to do."

Keene State returns to Little East play on Saturday when it travels to Providence to face Rhode Island College.  Worcester State returns home on Saturday to take on Bridgewater State.
