Box Score ROCHESTER, N.Y. 9/4/10 – Overtime was the name of
the game at the Rochester Institute of Technology's Rachel
Miller Memorial Women's Soccer Tournament on Saturday.
Keene State (1-0-1) played to a scoreless draw against Cortland
State (0-1-1). However, the Owls bested the Red Dragons 3-1
in penalty kicks to advance to Sunday's championship game at
11:30 a.m. KSC will play host RIT (1-0) who edged John
Carroll (OH) University 2-1 on an overtime goal by Shelby
Vakiener.
"We played hard for the entire 110 minutes," said
KSC Coach Denise Lyons. "Megan Dempsey (East Weymouth,
Mass.) was great in goal and kept us in the game."
Sophomore Joan Hamel (Weare, N.H.), freshmen Jessica Berthiaume
(Worcester, Mass.) and Brittany Boscarino (Ellington, Conn.) netted
penalty kick goals for the Owls.
Keene State had a slim edge in shots (15-14) and corner kicks
(6-5). Dempsey finished the game with eight saves. Pam
Monnier stopped six shots for Cortland.
Cortland will face John Carroll in Sunday's consolation
contest (9 a.m.)
