Owls Roll Past Huskies 3-0 on Senior Night

KEENE, N.H. 10/25/11 – Celebrating their final regular-season home match for the Keene State College volleyball class of 2011, the Owls rolled to a 3-0 (25-10, 25-5, 25-10) victory over Little East Conference foe Southern Maine on Tuesday night at Spaulding Gymnasium.

With the straight-set victory Keene State earns their sixth straight victory and improves to 16-10 overall and 5-1 in LEC play, while the loss drops the Huskies to 0-20 and 0-6 in league action.

Before the start of the game, the senior class of Ellyse Davis (Londonderry, N.H.), Kristen Girard (Red Hook, N.Y.), Madison McHugh (New Hyde Park, N.Y.), Bridget O'Bryant (Merrimack, N.H.), Braelan O'Toole (Derry, N.H.) and Laurie Whalen (Niantic, Conn.) all received kind words from KSC head coach Bob Weiner.

"I am so proud of these six young women," said Weiner. "They've been at the center of all things in the world of Keene State volleyball for the past four years. I have never coached such a talented, motivated group and they've meant so much to our program and me personally."

Davis led the way for KSC with seven kills on 10 attempts for a .700 hitting percentage. O'Bryant added five kills and a team-high seven digs and Whalen finished the victory with 17 assists and three kills in the victory.

Sophomore outside-hitter Alysse Tasse (Gilmanton, N.H.) led the way for the Huskies with three kills. Sophomore Annie Mitchell (Gorham, Maine) had two kills and a match-high eight digs in the losing effort. Sophomore setter Madalyn Terry (Kennebunkport, Maine) pitched in with six assists for USM.

The story of the match was service receive, as KSC had zero errors to Southern Maine's 23 on the match. Freshman middle blocker Samantha Branning (Glastonbury, Conn.) led the way for the home team with five service aces, while Davis, McHugh and freshman Emma Cheal (Redding, Conn.) each added three of their own.

The Owls hit .451 as a team in the victory, with 30 kills and seven errors on 51 attempts.

Keene State returns to action this Thursday, as they will travel to UMass Boston for their final Little East Conference match at 6 p.m. USM hosts St. Joseph's College (Maine) on Thursday in a non-conference match at 7 p.m.
