Box Score ORLANDO, FLA. 3/16/11 – So much for a happy reunion. Coaching against his alma mater for the first time in his 12 year coaching career at Keene State, Mark Theriault saw his Owls came up on the short-end of a 9-6 non-conference game against Springfield College in Orlando, Florida on Saturday.
Junior Griffin Meehan (Simsbury, Conn.) scored three goals for the Owls (3-1), which lost for the first time this season. Jarrid Johnson netted four goals for the Pride (3-3), which snapped a three game skid. Both teams received votes in this week's USILA national coach's poll.
Trailing 5-3, the Owls got goals from Griffin and sophomore Ian Hart (Richmond, N.H.) to knot the score at 5-all at the break. The Pride defense limited Keene State's offense to just one goal over the final 30 minutes. "We had a five minutes lapse in the fourth quarter that really hurt us," said Theriault. "They took advantage of some unforced errors and capitalized on them."
Pride goalie Connor Nash came up with several timely stops in the second half to keep the Owls at bay. Sophomore Jason Lesser (Brewster, N.Y.) had another strong game in goals for Keene State, finishing with 15 saves.
Hart scored two goals for KSC while sophomore Taylor Jette (Simsbury, Conn.) also found the back of the net for the Owls.
Keene State resumes its north schedule at Bowdoin College on Wednesday (4 p.m.).
