Owls Edged by Nationally Ranked Connecticut College

New London, Conn. 01/28/12 – Led by sophomore Drew Ledwith (Keene, N.H.) and his three individual victories, the Keene State College men's swimming and diving team was edged by the Conn. College Camels 147-144 on Saturday afternoon. The women, led by freshman Diana Pimer (West Haven, Conn.) and her two victories, were defeated by the Camels 175-113.

The Owl men, ranked 24th in the national poll right in front of the Camels, the Camels women are ranked 21st, with the Owls receiving votes but not making the top 25.

Ledwith, paced the Owls by winning the 1,000 free (9:23.38), the 200 fly (1:57.29) and the 500 free (4:46.77). The local, Keene, N.H. product, was also a member of the winning 400 free relay team with a total time of 3:09.41.

Sweeping the top three spots in the 200 fly, sophomores Dan Oliveira (Ludlow, Mass.) and Tyler Tallcouch (Seymour, Conn.) finished second (2:03.50) and third (2:04.79) for Owls.

Sophomore Jared Hyde (Tolland, Conn.) took first in the 200 free in a time of 1:45.61. Hyde also teamed up with Randy Dunton (St. Cloud, Florida), Oliveira and James Black (Lynn, Mass.) for a first place finish in the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:37.75.

In the diving events, Joshua Tuller (Plainview, N.Y.) and Derek Peabody (Haverhill, Mass.) won the three meter (252.07) and one meter (214.32) diving events, respectively for KSC.

For the women, Pimer won the 200 breast (2:27.17) and  the 200 IM (2:13.21) for KSC.

Seniors Jillian Whitaker (Guilford, N.H.) and Maureen O'Leary (Nashua, N.H.) each took home victories, with Whitaker winning the 100 breast in 1:07.90 and O'Leary touching the wall first in the 100 Fly with a time of 1:00.33.

Sophomore Stephanie Murray (Haverhill, Mass.) also won an event, taking first place in the 100 back in a time of 1:02.12.

Both the men's and women's swimming and diving teams are off until February, 11th when the divers will head to Bentley for the NEISDA Diving Championships. The Swimmers return to action the following weekend, as they will go to the Upper Valley Aquatic Center for the NEISDA Swimming Championships from February 17th-19th.
