Box Score AMHERST, MASS. 10/17/12 – Amherst College, ranked 10th nationally and first in the New England, shutout Keene State College 5-0 in a non-conference women's soccer game played Wednesday night in Amherst.
Keene State (10-7) saw its two game winning streak come to an end.
The Lord Jeffs (10-1-1) scored four goals in the first half with Amanda Brisco, Hannah Copper. Kathryn Nathan, and Mel Stier finding the back of the net.
Stier scored her second goal of the game in the second half.
Keene State had a couple of good scoring opportunities in the game. Midway in the first half, Brittany Croteau (Swanzey, N.H.) pushed Keene State into the attacking third. Looking to goal, the senior ripped a hard, rising shot on net, but first-year keeper Holly Burwick made a nice diving stop to keep the visitors off the board.
Sophomore Alex Haley (Laconjia, N.H.) found space on the right side of the 18 in the 62nd minute, but the Owl midfielder rang a shot off the crossbar, allowing the Amherst defense to record its eighth shutout of 2012.
Amherst outshot the Owls 18-12.
Sophomore Torrie Crenson (North Salem, N.Y.) finished the game with six saves for Keene State. Holly Burwick, had four saves and Meghan Mills stopped two shots for the Lord Jeffs.
Keene State hosts UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday (1 p.m.).
