Owls extend winning streak to six with 5-0 shutout win over Lancers

            KEENE, N.H. 10/6/12 –Senior  Alex Billert  (Center Conway, N.H.) had two goals to lead Keene State College to a 5-0 shutout win over Worcester State University in Little East Conference field hockey action at Owl Athletic Complex on Saturday.

            Winners of six straight, Keene State improves to 9-4 (5-1 LEC).  Worcester State (2-9. 0-7 LEC) has dropped its last five games.

            The Owls put the game away early, erupting for four first half goals.  "The mentally of the team is to be aggressive offensively," said Alex Billert, who scored two goals in the game.  "We want to get as many shots as we can and make a statement." 

            Alex Billert gave the Owls a 1-0 lead at the 6:42 mark of the first half, blasting a shot past Lancer senior goalie Rebecca Mullen (Peabody, Mass.) on a corner play.

            Junior Hannah Gage (Lebanon, N.H.) scored her fourth goal of the season on a rebound to make 2-0.  Taking a lead pass from sophomore Lauren Villanova (Woodbury, Conn.), sophomore Marisa Lemoine (Berlin, N.H.) netted her seventh goal of the season to make it 3-0.  Converting a feed from junior Leddy Gallagher (Acton, Mass..), Alex Billert completed the first half uprising scoring her second goal of the game and sixth of the season.  "I'm trying to catch my twin sister in goals," said Alex.  "It's a big motivation"

            Alex's twin sister Kailin Billert scored the only goal of the second half, redirecting a shot by sophomore Bella Robinson (Cape Elizabeth, Maine).  It was her team leading 15 goal of the season.

            Keene State dominated play from the opening whistle, outshooting the Lancers 27-1 and having a wide 16-2 edge in penalty corners.

           All three Keene State goalies, sophomore Caitlin Davino-Draper (Hanover, Mass.), and freshmen Meaghan Dwyer (Rutland, Mass.) and Chloe Audesse (Goffstown, N.H.) saw action in the game and didn't need to make a save.

          Mullen started in goal for WSU and made eight saves.  Sophomore Sydney Dionis (Shrewsbury, Mass.) played the final 9:52 and didn't get credit for a save.

         Keene State host second ranked Middlebury College on Tuesday (6 p.m.).  The lancers return home to face Clark University on Tuesday (7 p.m.).
